Senior Vase Quarter final (Midland division)

Saturday 6th February 2010 at Dunlop RFC
DUNLOP   (22)  v  BUGBROOKE    (15)
Dunlop were looking forward to this encounter and knew it would be tough.  Bugbrooke had been to watch Dunlop prior to the game and so knew what they would be up against.  Dunlop set the pace from the kick off and managed to collect an early try in the corner from a catch and drive, veteran Gez Clough claiming the touchdown, this was converted by Danny James.  However, Bugbrooke struck back within minutes following a fine pick up and drive by their No 8 and a swift inside break by the winger, a last ditch tackle from steve adcock looked to have saved the day but the referee spotted hands in the ensuing ruck beneath the posts and awarded a penalty try to Bugbrooke. Both sides continued to play some excellent rugby with some fine ball handling in the muddy conditions. Once again though the Dunlop forwards showed the way with Aron Jarvis collecting the 2nd try of the half, converted by Danny James, before Bugbrooke replied by converting a penalty late in the half.  Half time score was 14 - 10.  In the second half both sides were very well matched playing end to end rugby before Stuart Edwards broke the deadlock and Danny James converted a penalty, however, once again Bugbrooke fought through the strong Dunlop defence to collect an unconverted try in the corner. The last 15 minutes of the game were tense for both sides Dunlop defending their lead to secure the win against the competative Bugbrooke side. An excellent cup game was played out in front of a large crowd with the advantage just being with the home side througout. Dunlop now look forward to meeting Leamington in the Warwickshire Cup on Wednesday evening under floodlights at Keresley RFC, Burrow hill lane with a 7.30pm kick off  .
OLD LEAMINGTONIANS 2 (20)  v  DUNLOP 2  (19) - Away - League
Dunlop played some good rugby in this rearranged league encounter and were unlucky to narrowly miss out on the win.  The forwards dominated the scoring with Leigh Weston and Jack Badhan crossing the line before Marc Neville scored the try of the season for the Dunlop 2nd XV.  Dave Elvidge and Christy Hernon collecting a conversion each in the encounter.

DUNLOP 1 (49) v OLD LEAMINGTONIANS 1 (12)

Report follows for Midlands 3 West (South) from Saturday 30.1.10
DUNLOP 1  (49)  v  OLD LEAMINGTONIANS 1 (12) - League - Away
Dunlop met a strong Old Leamingtonians side with experienced players who managed to put on a good defensive display early on.  However, in the middle of the first half Mark Challis broke through along the touchline to dive over and open the scoring and this was followed by a penalty by Danny James.  Late in the half some fine ball handling and support play led to a further 3 tries: by James Reilly, Stuart Edwards and Aron Jarvis, with Danny James converting one, before Old Leamingtonians secured a surprise penalty try just before the end the half making the score 25 - 7 to Dunlop.  In the second half Dunlop picked up the pace and after some good running lines and excellent passing moves collected a further 4 tries: a second each for Stuart Edwards and James Reilly, then Connor Price and John Phillips with Danny James converting 2.  A good win after a hard fought contest. Dunlop are now looking forward to hosting Bugbrooke RFC next week in the RFU Senior Vase Midlands Division Quarter Finals kicking off at 2.15pm.
DUNLOP 2 (41)  v  SOUTHAM 2 (8) - League - Home
Dunlop again put out a good, strong 2nd XV to play host to Southam which lead to a fine display of 7 tries and 2 penalties
